Kristen is another top-notch Szczecin based music project. The band was formed in 1997 by
Michal Biela and brothers
Mateusz and
Łukasz Rychlicki. Their compositions are difficult to classify within one stream; the musicians draw influences form post punk, post rock, jazz and pop music.
On their debut album released in 2000, Kristen sound is austere, approaching match rock and noise music, still it already has some features which today stand for the uniqueness of the band: frugality in sound doses, skills in mood creation, finessed and precise melodies, smart lyrics. On their next albums the band evolved this canon. The 2002 release
'Stiff Upper Worlds' comprises more uniform music. Their tone is still frugal but more mellow than on their debut album. The third album
'Please Send Me a Postacrd' (2003) was recorded with another guitar player, Marcin Piekoszewski, and a group of befriended musicians, especially trumpeter Artur Majewski and saxophone player Adam Pindur from Robotobibok. The parts of trumpet, saxophone or violin gave Kristen music richer and fuller sound. The musicians completely abandoned the guitar grime and devoted themselves to creating complicated melodies. The last Kristen album was released in 2005
'Night Store'. A new member, bass player Konrad Smoleński performed on the album. The compositions on the album are shorter and more intense.
This year a new album will be released and Kristen's performance at Boogie Brain Festival will be its preview.
