the boys from sorrento

27th of June (Saturday) & 16th of July (Thursday)

'The Boys from Sorrento' project is an invitation to a unique journey into the 60’s, into the history of Szczecin. Unique, because you do not need anything to start the journey. It is going to be possible thanks to the pictures, film, video-art and music, unique because focusing not on places but personalities, which gave the places its character and built the atmosphere of the city.

The Boys from Sorrento'The Boys from Sorrento' is the story found by accident and it fits perfectly the modern times of the city. The Boys from Sorrento were the group of twentysomething guys, who grew up in the 50’s and 60’s in Szczecin. Just the short glimpse at the personalities from the past makes clear that there are plenty of similarities between the youngsters from the middle of the last century and the youth of today in Szczecin. They have the same needs, ideals, problems. Moreover, the guys from the past had to discover a totally strange place, the city that was not present in the stories of their parents and their teachers. The city that was not German anymore but still not fully Polish yet. The city which identity had to be built not only literally.

Fifty years later the situation seems to be quite similar. Szczecin is searching for some image. Still, without the clearly defined identity and history, the youth of the city has the problem to identify with Szczecin. The only thing that remains sure is that the Sorrento boys perceived Szczecin as their beloved city despite the difficult times they lived in. How the city will be perceived by today youngsters we will see in the future.

On the 27th of June 2009 at 8pm on Boguslawa Street (pedestrian zone)  there will be a meeting with 'The boys from Sorrento'. Bands and djs will perform on music stage located also on Boguslawa Street. At 10pm the party will move to Mezzoforte Club (also on Boguslawa Street). Multimedia presentations and photography exhibition by Zbigniew Wroblewski will make the party more attractive. It will be also available to see 'The Boys from Sorrento' movie trailer.
